I just returned from the annual MER conference held in Chicago, Illinois by Cohasset where Viewpointe was a featured sponsor and presented a popular session on the cloud. Focused on Managing Electronic Records, this conference delivers a solid educational platform filled with industry pundits from the legal, compliance, consulting and the vendor community speaking on everything from case law to the latest technology trends.
I had the pleasure to participate in the closing day of keynotes which were phenomenal. Bob Williams, founder of Cohasset and MER, broke away from the norm this year and did not do the traditional aspirational send-off to his attendees. He certainly stuck to his tried and true mock trial and particular speakers but this year was a mix of controversial topics and strong messages, prompting attendees to think differently. Kudos!
The morning kicked off with IGI’s Barclay Blair speaking on When Keeping Everything Forever is Possible: Implications on RIM and IG. He kicked off the morning with witty rhetoric and challenged the crowd immediately that he would require them to think differently. He stated there was a need for a new metaphor to address the onslaught of information. He discussed the concept of an information flood or tsunami and was quick to say this was incorrect –“these terms are inaccurate. This is not a temporary state where everything eventually goes back to the way it was. This is a permanent change in the high water mark.” I really loved this analogy which set the tone for the rest of his talk and does change the perspective of current RIM strategies.
